Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How big is the parcel of land in Balzac?
4.83 Acre.

2. How much did the parcel of land in Balzac cost?
$2.425 M.

3. Is this land clear titled to St. Mina Coptic Church?
Yes, this land is officially clear titled to St. Mina Church, meaning that it is legally in the name of St. Mina.

4. When will you be beginning construction?
Spring 2010.

5. When will construction be complete?
Target date is September 2011.

6. How much seating will there be in the main part of the Church.
Seating for 400 and we have the ability to expand in the future.

7. What is the size of the Church?
Nave = 8,000 Square Feet
Two wings = 6,000 Square Feet x 2

8. What is included in the wings?
Wing 1 will include Sunday School class rooms, theatre, Abouna and administrative offices.
Wing 2 will include our kitchen, Quorban room, library, food storage, and deacon room.

9. What kind of amentias can I expect with phase one of construction?
Commercial kitchen, cafeteria, Sunday School Class Rooms, a large foyer, Quorban room, crying room, food storage, baptisry, library, meeting room for the youth, administrative offices and much more.

10. How much money have we received from The City of Calgary?
5.55 M.

11. Who is our architect? And how much was his retainer.
Woods Parker Architects will be our architect. $400,000 was their fixed retainer.

12. What do you plan on doing about transportation?
1) We will be starting a shuttle service that picks up and drops off members of the congregation
2) We might use the services of CARTSS, a non-profit organization, that provides transportation to other non-profit-organizations.

13. How many parking spots are we going to have?
Right now, the design currently has 163 parking spots.

14. Has a Construction manager been selected for the construction project, and who are they?
Clark Builders will provide the Construction Management (CM) to the project.  

15.  What is the fee for the Construction Manager?
The Board of Deacons has negotiated a 2.7% fee for the project and is based on standard CCA-5.

16. Does Clark builders have experience with such a project?
Clark Builders is one of the leading Construction Managers in the province, and have worked on several Church related projects.  They are currently the Construction Manager for the St. Mary and St. Mark’s expansion in Edmonton, Alberta.

17. What stage is the project at?
Currently the project is at the stage of finalizing the construction drawings. Next step is to obtain the Building Permit from the Municipal District of Rocky View, which normally takes two weeks from the date of submission.

18.  Has the Board of Deacon’s leveraged the experience and knowledge of the congregation?
Yes, the Board of Deacon’s has reached out to members of the congregation who are experts in design and construction. During every stage of this process the experts were involved from Design to selection and interview of the Construction Managers and the sub trades.

19.  When will we see the new church design drawings?
The new church design drawings are currently being completed, and should be ready for the congregation to view by June 18th, 2010.
